Achievements

Congratulations to Low Jiun Yang, a PhD (Sport Science) student, on being selected to participate in the BWF World Coaching Conference 2025, held in conjunction with the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025. His research, entitled “Contribution of Leg Strength Qualities to Change of Direction and Agility in Badminton Players,” was selected for presentation at this prestigious international event. The study was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ler Hui Yin and contributes to advancing scientific understanding of performance factors essential for badminton excellence. 

Congratulations to Master of Science (Food Science) student Yuo Zhi Xuan on winning 2nd Place in the Best Poster Award at the 4th International Food Research Conference 2026, themed “Integrating Food Innovation and Management for Sustainable Food Security.” Her research paper, entitled “Development and Characterisation of Guava-Oil Blend Powder with Improved Fatty Acid Ratios” contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being through functional food innovation under the supervision of Assoc. Prof.  Dr Thed Swee Tee. 

Congratulations to Master of Science in Sports Science student Chong Hee Kin on receiving the Best Oral Presenter Award at the 14th International Sport Science Conference 2026. His research paper, entitled “A Musical Physical Activity Intervention to Improve Motor, Cognitive, and Social-Emotional Outcomes in Five-Year-Old Malaysian Preschool Children,” contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting healthy child development through innovative physical activity interventions. The study was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ler Hui Yin. 

Congratulations to Soo Ann (left) and Chong Weng Foong (right), Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science students, on winning the Best Poster Presentation and Best Oral Presentation Awards, respectively, at the 4th International Conference on Innovation and Technology in Sports 2025. Soo Ann's award-winning work was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Tiew Kee Aun, while Chong Weng Foong's research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Ler Hui Yin. Their outstanding achievements reflect their dedication to academic excellence and research innovation in the field of sports and exercise science. 

Congratulations to Guey Yong Chong, PhD (Life Science) student, on receiving a Travel Grant (USD 800) in recognition of outstanding research achievement. His research, entitled “A Novel Perspective on the Association of Optimal Meal Timing and Dietary Intake with Glycaemic Progression in Asian Prediabetic Adults,” was presented at the International Congress of Diabetes and Metabolism (ICDM) 2025. The study was conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Koo Hui Chin and highlights important insights into nutritional strategies for diabetes prevention and metabolic health. 

Congratulations to GLORIA GRACIA WONG SZE from Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science on an incredible series of victories! Her remarkable performance has brought home multiple medals from the ITTF World Para 2025 events.

Livy Chong Guey Yong - PhD (Life Science) students obtained Consolation Prize in Poster Competition during Nutrition Society Malaysia 2025 Conference, Berjaya Times Square, 28 - 29 July 2025.

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Analytical Chemistry student Wong Siew Munn (right), receiving her certificate after winning the Best Poster Award during the 8th International Conference on Functional Materials and Devices (ICFMD) 2024.

Two teams of students from FOAS participated in the Microbes Invention Innovation and Ideation Challenge (MINIC) 2023 organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on 18 November 2023. One team won the second prize while the other won the Bronze award in the Undergraduate category.

A number of teams consisting of FOAS students won the WATSON & TAR UMT Youth Empowerment & Sustainability Program (YES) 2023 Competition on 5 October 2023. Two teams won the first and second placings in the Go Empowerment category while another won second placing in the Go Green category.
